You get partnered up with a sixth grader, seventh grader and in eighth grader for cooking groups and doing other fun activities. You also get the chance to learn how to build a tent. The only thing that I don’t suggest to do is to not listen to your teachers because their might be the possibility that you will get lost so remember to stay close to your peers or teachers. You should also pack a pretty good lunch because since you are hiking for so long you get pretty tired and then really hungry and thirsty so remember to take lots of water with you because water from the lake with that stuff that you need to use for killing germs taste really bad. But other then just focusing on all the negative things focus on the positive, that you will have a great time!!!!

Chinchillas

By Tanner Shelp

Chinchillas are a rodent but are larger than mice. They are more fluffy and rounded. They can be kept as pets. They are also like a bunny because of there ears. They are very social and they are animals as you may have already guessed. Chinchillas are nocturnal which means that they sleep during the day and are active at night. Their nicknames are chins and the best time to play with them is in the evening. They enjoy cardboard in there cages to tear it up because thy need something active to do. Female chinchillas are normally larger than the dudes are. They weigh up to 4 pounds but can be as light as 1.3 pounds. Unlike rabbits, chinchillas are pretty much odor free which is good if you are looking into buying one. Like hamsters, chinchillas use an exercise wheel in order to keep them happy as well as healthy. If you are wondering where they are from: chinchillas originated in the tropic area of South America. One of the most common chinchillas is the grey chinchilla. If you really want to walk them, they are capable. If you put a leash on a chin then you CAN take them for walks, (you might get some weird looks though). When the assignment was given, we were told that as soon as we had an idea of what to write about (INDEPENDENTLY), we were to go to the teacher and tell them what we were going to write about, and after we did, we should go to the computer lab and write about it.
Our assignments had to be at the minimum two-hundred words. Writing a fantasy isn’t something I like to do, but there is nothing real that sounds interesting either.
I sat motionless in my chair for a while, preoccupied of my surroundings, thinking, brainstorming of things that wouldn’t be too hard to write about.
Sure it might be easy to make something up on the spot, but the real issue is having it being read by other people, who I probably wouldn’t even know.
If in fact I did write a fantasy, I wouldn’t want it to be too un realistic; and I certainly wouldn’t want to write a story or poem or whatever that was about me.
As I thought hard in my chair, going over all the possible topics I could write about, I realised the other people in my class start getting up to tell the teacher their idea. I knew from my thoughtless mind that I would be the last one.
Then, it hit me.
I would write about this.

Jell-O

By Nathan Merenstein

What do you think? Is jell-O more like a liquid or more like a solid? That is completely up to you what you think it is more like. Personally I think jell-O is more like a solid because it stays in one shape and you eat it and not drink it.
I think that jell-O is also a very tasty and good for making sick people feel better, a few other foods that look like it but I only know one of them right now, vanilla and chocolate pudding. Not many people know the amazing taste and what jell-O does for you when you are sick.
Jell-O is mostly made of powder and water and other ingredients. Over all it is tasty, good for you when you are sick and it is not bad for you.
Jell-O is the food to eat and have next to you when you are sick. I hope that because it is a new year 2010 more people will read my blog and learn how good jell-O is. I haven’t had jell-O as many times as I would like to, so when I get home I will buy enough jell-O for the rest of the week and keep doing that at the beginning of every week as many times as I can until I get sick of it (but that wont happen because I will never get sick of it because of it.)

Eggo Shortage

By Mackenzie Mathias

The Eggo factory in Atlanta Georgia is blaming the shortage of frozen waffles on heavy rainstorms that flooded the factory after health inspectors found a bacteria called Listeria that can cause serious infection. Listeria is a bacteria commonly found in food, plants, soil, stream water, and sewage. It is harmless for most people but can be harmful especially for pregnant woman, people with a weakened immune system, or newborn babies. Kellogg agreed to a recall on September 2 after 4,500 cases were reported. It was cleaned and sanitized. Oscar Garrison who is the assistant commissioner of consumer protection at the Georgia Department of health told ABC News “They wanted to be really comfortable that they got every potential source of Listeria. They wanted to do a thorough evaluation.” Kellogg hired private inspectors to look over everything in the factory and then let the state and federal investigators sign off that everything is fine and had been cleaned. In October of 2009 the factory reopened but has now been shutdown again due to weather. Hopefully it will soon reopen and the Eggo shortage will be finished!

Winter

By Kyle Colley

As the snow fell on the ground and I drinking from my warm mug filled with coffee. I started with a milk carton and spread some frosting on the top of it. Once the plate was filled with frosting I got my gumdrops. I put gumdrops on the top of the house. I enjoy making my gingerbread house. I then got gram cracker and put it on the sides of the house. Once I was finish I was very excited. I walked it to my mama’s house and gave it to her as a present. She really enjoys and I went back home. I pour another cup of coco a drank it. It was very chocolate and it was really good. Well in my opinion I think that Milan is stuck up and thinks that he is better than all Nicks. Nick is very hungry and hasn’t eaten in quite a while. Nick, if he can catch them likes to eat little Kyles. Little Kyles are quick and curious little creatures. They are very cute creatures and always walk around trying to impress the lady Kyles, Nick has been hunting little Kyle for quite some time now and he really wants to get his paws on one of them. It seems when ever Nick gets close to eating a little Kyle it evades from Nick. Nick decides to go for a much easier target named JJ. This target is very slow and lies around and eats all day. He is pretty smart, but his stomach is what really controls him. Andrew is a quite smart animal that sits in the trees and hoards his bananas. He doesn’t let anyone get near them and if they do he will put up quite a fight. He is known to have a slight temper and you don’t want to trigger that temper. Kyle and Andrew are quite good friends, unlike JJ. JJ is quite a loner and doesn’t really have that many friends. Nick finally sees a JJ and realizes his chance to feast. He sees that this JJ in particular is quite plump. Milan is trying to protect the nearly extinct JJ and quickly comes up with a brilliant idea… or so he thought. “Guys, guys, we shouldn’t be fighting because we all should be friends.” Says the quite hopeful Milan. Nick laughs very hard at Milan for lacking in some areas and walks away after eating the plump JJ he walks away very happy while laughing at Milan. The End.

Surfing

By Jack Espy

Surfing was invented by Hawaiians in Hawaii and it was made famous by Duke Kahanamoku and he died January 22 1868. Surfing is my favorite sport because I love to be in water and it is the best feeling when you get that perfect wave. Surfing is usually a saltwater sport but you can also surf in lakes and rivers. There are different kinds of surfboards there are boards from 5 feet to 13 feet long, but my favorite size boards are 6-9 foot boards. My favorite places to surf are Hawaii, California and New York. I cant wait till I get into the barl in the nice clear blue water. My favorite surfers are Kelly Slater and he is the best surfer in the world then Lard Hamilton. Each team must consist of three Stanley students and they can invite anyone out of school. Many students in the past have made teams with their alumni siblings. Stanley has made this tournament an annual tradition; it helps raise money for the school and also is a fun activity for the students. The maximum person per team is ten. Fourteen teams will be accepted so hurry up and get a spot. The tournament will occur on January Eighth (Milan’s Birthday). We are extremely excited and hoping you will create your own team and participate in this fun tournament in an effort to raise money for our school. We all know what that means at Stanley… The Holiday Program! This is where every kid at Stanley gives a performance. They might be with another class, but there is a great chance that they will get a solo if they want to. If you are a kid in the K-1-2 then you will perform with a class in the 6-7-8. There will also be other performances by some of the parents or other choirs that they belong to. The 6th grade choir will also be performing a couple of heart-warming songs. The 3-4-5s choirs will be performing and it will be their debut performance for this year. Some of the other kids in the 6-7-8 will be performing, and showing us some of their talents. The Stanley BPS store will be open on the day of the Program and you can buy sweatpants, t-shirts and even more! Everything at the Stanley store will be great and full with bulldog spirit. I will look forward to seeing everyone there!

Holiday Spirit

Sydney Pollack

The shimmering candles glistened in front of me, warming my spine. I set the candle down, back in its holder at the top of the menorah. We all stood there in front of 7 soothing candles watching the fire jump around and dance in circles. The sweet sent of the burning candles filled the thick air. Many scents came in with each breathe, and out with others. Only two more Hanukkah presents leaned against the wall, each wrapped in blue paper lined with white stars. I saw that the wonderful 8-day week of Hanukkah was drawing to an end. All the present and food was the part I am going to miss. Potatoes pancakes were my favorite. The crispy outside with a warm cooked to perfection inside. The great feeling of the holidays and the joy of winter break. The joy in the air was easy to sense. People carrying many shopping bags, full handed. Smiles on all the little kids faces as they each got a turn to sit on Santa’s lap at the mall. This great time of the year is just about gone, over. I wondered what was inside the last two presents; I had already got what I wanted. The happy looks on my face made my parents happy, and their facial expressions lightened my day as well. I hoped that my last few presents would be useful to my parents. I had my gifts to give my friends tomorrow when we all went for a holiday party sleepover. One of my friends was having everyone over at 7 pm to have a dance party and pizza. We were all having a slumber party after. I wished that his happy joyful time lasted for another week.

Prime Time

By Ian Rudiger

It is that time of year were many dreams come true. I know what you are wondering. You are wondering why is it at this time of year do peoples dreams come true, well there are many race for fundraising. There are also many Marathons and Half Marathons that people train all over the country to do. Here is some races that stuck out to me after I did some research.

There was one huge marathon that happened just one week ago; the New York City Marathon. Many people across the country train all year to succeed in this marathon. The top men’s finisher came across the finish line 2:09:57 the name of the guy was Meb Keflezighi from the U.S.A. The top women’s finisher came across the finish line 2:28:52 her name was Derartu Tulu who is from Ethiopia. The New York marathon has been around for a long time and has gotten the reputation to get fairly large.

A great race happened yesterday located in Stapleton Colorado. It was called the Home for the Holidays it was a 5K walk/run.

A great Marathon is coming up it is located in Sacromento California. It is at low altitude so there will be many fast times. My dad is looking to qualify for the Boston Marathon the biggest Marathon in the country. I think he will be able to do it because he is at a low altitude so I think that he will do better because he will have better breathing. This has been a great prime running season and lets hope the best to all of the runners out there to succeed.

STOP MONKYING AROUND!

By Sydney Pollack
USA Networks TV sensation Monk is a crime show with much adventure and many laughs. Monk (Tony Shalhoub) the main character, and main detective takes on the worst cases. What makes the show so fun is the OCD Monk has. His biggest problem is germs; every thing has to be clean neat and orderly. Everything has its spot in Monks home and there is a huge problem if something is out of place. Monk and his assistant Natalie (Traylor Howard) are assigned to murder cases that only a few people would dare to take on. The police department can always give Monk a call if anything is wrong. One of the funniest shows that is appropriate for kids and adults and recommended for kids 10 and up. It is a really fun show with different characters every show and new crimes. At the begging of the show, they show the person who gets killed and a little of the death. Monk uses all of the people he meets and many clues along the way to piece it all together.

Trick or Treat

By Ian Rudiger

Oh, I almost forgot it was just Halloween I wonder what kids got for Halloween in terms of candy. What candy was popular for this Halloween? I wonder what good costumes there where. The following paragraph will be all about candy and fun costumes.

Some of the costumes I saw were lady bugs, army men, Jesus, and well I could go on forever the point is that there was many great creative costumes. The candy kids got were a lot of Whoppers. I felt like I had a tone of Whoppers. The other weird candy I got was sour patch kid’s stick. These are really good but I think they are way over rated.

Remember to trick or treat for UNICEF this will give many things to kids all over the world that are in need. Just for one dollar you can protect a kid from Polio for life. For just 6 cents you can give a kid clean water. This is a great program because when kids are running door to door getting candy they can also be saving many and many lives. I think this is an easy way to help out millions of kids around the world.

Our parade, which took place in the Stanley British Primary Gym, was amazing led by our fabulous 8th grade leader ship council. When the teachers of the school delivered an amazing Thriller dance by Michael Jackson in their scary costumes we all new this was a going to be a great parade. I was a great parade with many great costumes. We had a lot of kids dress up to relate to what has happened this past year. For example many people that dressed up as pigs to relate to the H1N1 (swine flu) and another kid dressed up as Balloon Boy. But overall I think I have had one of the best Halloweens in a very long time.

Balloon Boy

By Eliza Samuelson

Only two weeks ago a young boy, Falcon Heene was supposedly in the sky flying high above ft. Collins Colorado in the balloon the family had built in their backyard. When actually hours later the balloon came down and no little boy was inside the huge contraption. The balloon had flown 50 miles over Colorado landing in Loveland. Later we discovered that the very frightened boy was actually hiding in the family attic and he came out asking “why did I have to hide daddy?” when the family appeared on Good Morning America, Falcon couldn’t hold back the truth or barf any longer, and yes the boy did puke on live television. And when asked, “why did u hide.” He simply replied with a shy “ umm we did this for the umm show.” Patrick Heene the father let out a sigh, also Falcon was asked, “did you hear people calling your name?” and he responded with a “mmm hmm I did” then the father asked “so why didn’t you come out?” and little Falcon said “ you and mommy told me not to.” Now due to this desperate search for fame they might face severe charges and time in jail.

Avalanche Game

By Noah Reynolds

This is a section of stories about me living and dealing with the notorious siblings. It was a clear summer day, the air was hot and dry and the birds were chirping in the open air. But of course my brothers and I stayed inside watching television. I had just gotten a new pillow and rumor has it that it was the best in the house. After watching SpongeBob SquarePants for three hours straight we decided to do something about our constant boring attitude.

While trying to find something to do a suitcase was laying at the top of the stairs. Me being the smaller one I fell in head first throttling myself down to the unforgiving floor below. Thus the Avalanche game was born.

Pillows upon pillows blankets upon blankets piled on the top floor stairs completely covering the grey and dull runner flying up the stairs. The black and cramped suitcase was precariously perched upon the top of the wood railing on the stairs. I was of course the Guinea Pig as my brothers put it. My job was simple once we added new things go down and get hurt so my brothers wouldn’t have to.

Then came the big idea, suitcases were out of style now big unsafe and dangerous brown boxes were in the trend. So I bet you can see where this is going, covering the top of a box while rolling back and forth up and down between the crevices and bumps of the staircase. After a few times of no injury we hit the dreaded wall of pain. After flying down I hit my head hard on the wood floor. Then came my parents and the yelling fits. My mom’s constant happy face soon turned into a frown and an angry face. After a stern talking to with my brothers I was laying on the couch with an ice pack covering my whole face. If you ask me today was it worth it I will simply respond, it’s a brother thing you wouldn’t understand.

Gymnist Diaries

By Micala Bruce

Dear diary, Monday. I wake up and dip my washcloth in the luke warm water, although I am still half asleep. I slowly bring the cloth up to my face. I slip on some jeans and a blue-stripped shirt and walk down stairs ready for breakfast. I got to scool ready for a tiring day. As usual I complain to my friends about my busy life and how much I loath the beginning of the week. Not much to do just another day. I get home and indulge myself in apples and the Halloween candy that I have left over, and then get started on my homework. Two hours I am ready for gymnastics. The earlier practice for the level 6’s consists of giant on the strap bat, backhandspring backflip on tumble track, and backwalkovers on beam. I finish my giants and head over to beam. 5 backflips that doesn’t sound so bad. Great!!! Now it’s not to fat to go. I just have to finish beam. Oh great!!!! My coach is making us tumble now. We have to set up the mat and get in a line to warm up. After pit tumbling we go in the gym. We have 3 of our events. “ladies, straight legs. Straight arms” finally! The earlier practice is over!!! Well the rest of the practice was not too exiting. We did bars, vault and beam, oh how fun that was! Burnout! The worst part of the whole practice, and the practice is 3 hours long! We have push-up’s and pull-up’s and press-handstands. It’s a tough time to go threw especially if it’s the end of practice. Now I have to go home and finished my homework! I can be in bead by 10:00 and that’s pretty early!!!! See ya diary!!!!!!

Confresnces (the talk of death) title by Micala Bruce

By Kate Schlegel

In November, all of the middle school students meet with each of one of their teachers. The way the conferences work is you go and get to meet with each of your teachers on one day. The days you can have your confrence is Thursday November 5, 2009, who can also have Friday November 6, 2009, the third day you can have your confrence is on Thursday November 12, 2009, the last day you can have your confrence is Friday November 13, 2009. Those are the four days you can have your conferences on. The way the conferences work at Stanley is you have a scheduled confrence on one of those four days. Your parents, your advisor and you are at one table. Teachers come in one at a time and talk about how you are doing in those classes, but your advisor is there for all of the confrence. When you go in it is a little scary, but once you know that you are doing well in school or okay in school it’s not that bad. It is a little frigtning because you don’t know what your teachers are going to say at your confrence, but when your over with your confernce you are relived until you get in the car with your parents, because if you did not that well it is a little scary. I think conferences are good at Stanley because you can either do what your doing the best or you need some help and work a little hard.

Snow Days

Sydney Pollack

Ice water slowly trickled down the back of my neck, sending shivers down my spine. White snow covered all the trees, with a peaceful even coat. At least a foot of white silky snow it paved the street. I trudged towards the house. At the door I hit my boot against the side of the wall, trying to get most of the snow off. I walked in and slipped my boots off, letting my toes rub against the warm fuzzy carpet. I unbuttoned my new red coat that I just got for the holidays and tore it away. I helped myself out of snow pants almost ready to curl up under a blanket. Just for a second I stood over the air vent, letting gusts of air blow the snow out of my hair and on to the floor. Quickly heat rushed up my sleeves and through my body, warming the inside too. Wearing my favorite pajamas I snuggled up under the blankets in front of the fire that my mom was maintaining. She brought over from the kitchen, a steaming cup of coco. The coco burned my throat as I swallowed. I watched the fire roar, seeing the flames dancing to the music that was lightly heard in the background. This was a great way to near an end of winter break. Quite, calm, and peaceful. Snuggled up under a silk blanket in my favorite pajamas sipping coco, in front of a fire was just the way to go.

Boys Like Girls

By Eliza Samuelson

Two weeks ago I was lucky enough to experience a concert featuring many bands, A Rocket to the Moon, VersAmerge, The Maine, Cobra Starship and Boys like Girls. The concert was so much fun except for the fact that some guy put me on his shoulders, and a girl threw up on my shoe, lovely I know. The show had already started when I got there and VersAmerge was playing one of their songs.. After VersAmerge went off, A rocket to the Moon came on, and played their hit song “Annabelle” the volume was so loud that you could feel the vibrations running through your body like an electric shock, and if you were holding a cup you couldn’t help your hand from shaking. A Rocket to the Moon played 5-7 songs and they were all great. After A Rocket to the Moon was over I went to the lobby and met the lead singer of VersAmerge it was a very cool experience. Next to take the stage was The Maine. They were so awesome it was so much fun to listen to them. They played “Pour Some Sugar on me” and many other hit songs. The lights fell down and the crowd was silent, then Cobra Starship (one of my favorite bands) came out on stage and the silence disappeared in a second. They stared to play and we all were waiting for their hit song “Good Girls go Bad” but they played many songs before like “Hot mess” finally Gabe, the lead singer of Cobra Starship said “You know sometimes I meet a girl, and she’s such a good little thing, but once I get a hold of her she always goes bad” and the crowd went insane and they played “Good Girls go Bad” after they left the stage giving it over to the final band Boys Like Girls. My friend and I went into the lobby to meet Gabe from cobra starship it was so cool to meet him. He was super nice and a really cool guy! I could hear the guitar start to play and then a “yaoww” and Boys Like Girls came out on the stage singing their hit song “Love Drunk” my head was pounding from me dancing so much that I could barely think. I lost my voice after that concert, true proof of what an AMAZING concert it really was.

World Series

By Jackson Mammel

It’s the final games between the New Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies. The Nuggets have almost exactly the same roster that took them to the Western Conference Finals a year ago. Parker native Chauncy Billups and Carmello Anthony are leading a cast of experienced players, as well as rookies just out of college. One of the Nuggets new additions this year is highly touted rookie Ty Lawson out of national champion North Carolina. Which dominated Duke twice last year on the way to being the best team in the nation. I am calling the Nuggets to crush Kobe Bryant and become the Western Conference champions.

Stanley sports

By Jackson Mammel

This sports season is in full swing, The teams are doing good too. When Stephanie the middle school counselor, Susan the head or middle school, and the head of the school Tim Barrier delivered an amazing Thriller in honor of Michael Jackson death. It was a fun filled dance from Low by Florida to slow dances by Taylor Swift it was a great opening dance. I want to give out a huge thanks to David the D.J. who did a wonderful job with lights and songs. It was fun filled dance with some twist and turns and one dang good play lists. It was a fun dance with awesome songs and lights.

A preview of the typical Stanley dance is what I will tell you. When you walk in you give the receptionist your 5 dollars for a fundraiser that is ran by the Stanley Student Counsel. You give the 5 sweaty dollars to the receptionist and bolt in to a room to find a huge round dancing on a huge hard wood floor. I walk in not knowing what to do but then you get right in to it and dance the lights shine on you as the disco ball spin around you glare at it in awe, and say to yourself this is the best night ever.

3-4-5 TEACHER ON THE MEND

By Jack Longenecker

3-4-5 Teacher on the Mend

3-4-5 teacher Allison Neckers is recovering from a stroke that she suffered in early October. When a person has a stroke the main symptoms that they have are, numbness in their limbs, intense dizziness and extreme confusion. Allison was immidiatly rushed to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a minor stroke. Allison was in Michigan at the time of the stroke and is recovering there in Lancing where most of her family lives. For those of you that do not know Allison has one arm and has to use her other one for everything. Some doctors believe that stress in this arm contributed to her stroke. This would have increased the chances of blood in her arm clotting which is what causes a stroke. We all hope for a speedy and safe recovery for Allison Neckers.

Haunted Houses

By Ian Rudiger

Haunted houses are scary I will put it that way; there is no other way to put it. They are made to be scary and they are made for nothing else. My question I’m going to write about is haunted houses over rated or not. I have been to a couple in this Halloween season and the question I have are they really worth it. I have heard people say that are not scary or they are overrated so that is why I bring this up. Amusement parks and different places/arenas hold these haunted houses, and spend thousand and thousands of dollars on them but there is no point if people don’t like them.

I think that the one that a went to was called Bloodlust witch was not that scary because they spent so much money setting up a scary pop out people, so when they do try to scare you are ready. I thought they tried to hard to scare you and didn’t realize how easy it was. I overall thought it was ok they spent to much time on a body parts room and a spotter house that is want that scary.

There was another one at Elich Garden that was good it was called the Suffering. I think this was a very good haunted house it was scary and the first part of the haunted house was very scary and made you want to run out side and not go no further. They mad amazing scary costume and the design was amazing but the best of all, was the acting they would fallow you and scare you from behind and at the end they chase out with an ongoing chain saw. It is fill with screams and thrill and is definitely scary.

The last one I’m going to tell you about is a haunted house called the 13th Floor this haunted house is not for kids. I have heard it is scary but I think by looking at videos and hearing people talk about this haunted house, what I heard was it is scary but it is not worth the money the creators put in to it. The question I come back to is, is a haunted house worth spending lot and lot of money on well I say no. The reason why I say no is because it doesn’t take much for people to get scared and if you can achieve that by not spending much money then I think you will make money and will have a good haunted house. It doesn’t matter if it is scary or not the point is if you can scare someone then there is no point in spending more on you haunted house. I think that the haunted house industry would do better if they made there prices lower but made the haunted house cheaper and better, it would be better for all of us and that is what I think about Denver’s 2009 Haunted Houses.

Entering Alphonso Smith to the Denver Broncos

By Kate Schlegel

Alphonso Smith number 33 is a new corner back for the Denver Broncos. Alphonso Smith grew up in Pahokee, FL and went to Pahokee high school. Alphonso attended Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Alphonso Smith’s responsibility on the field is to catch the ball when the apposing team kicks it to the Broncos, Alphonso has to try to run and make it as far as he can get with the ball, Alphonso also can catch it or can get a touch back which means you automatically get to go to the 20 yard line, without trying to run. My dad and I met Alphonso Smith at my brother Connor’s (17), Kent Denver football game. The reason Alphonso smith was at the game was because a freshmen on my brother’s football team’s (Stoe Fargloth, his real name is actually Dallas Fargloth) stole’s mom Heather is somehow good friends with Alphonso smith. Alphonso Smith to me is an exptional player and also kind nice and respectful. I also met Alphonso’s girlfriend Brittney, she is pretty and nice just like her boyfriend. I hope that Alphonso Smith will be with the Bronco’s for some time now. The reason I was lucky to meet him is because my dad Ted Schlegel is the Bronco doctor, and travels everywhere with them. My dad is an orthopedic surgeon, and fixes up shoulders knees and elbows, at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic. When my dad and I were walking past Alphonso Smith and his girlfriend he realized my dad and said “hey doc how’s it going.” I hope Alphonso Smith will keep his game up on the broncos so that I will see him a lot on the football field

From an Icy Slope, To a Medical Miracle

By Ian Rudiger

Speeding down an icy slope at many miles per hour, falling down on a very icy slope and having a body temperature of 56 degrees. This is what happened to a woman from Norway and it is true story. When I read this article I was amazed I thought it was a miracle. I thought she must have had a super power or something on the lines of that to come back to life. But no it was not true. Bagenholm had survived one of the most tragic ski accidents ever. When she was brought on helicopter to the University Hospital of North Norway her body temperature was 56 degrees and there had never been someone whose body temperature was that low that had survived for that long. Bagenholm was a very good skier and was going down when she her ski got tripped up by a rock, she spun to the left and fell tumbled and got stuck in ice a wile down in a icy slope craves. Her friends panicked as they skied down to see what had happened they called for help to get a helicopter and more rescue crew and so two rescue members came one from the bottom and one from the top. They got there in time the top rescue member got there first and did not have proper equipment to be able to help much; the second rescue crew member that came from the bottom had a small shovel. They used it to cut a hole in the ice big enough to get Bagenholm out by rope.

It was an amazing thing that day that changed that woman’s life forever she still lives to tell the remarkable story today. This happened in 1999 but the reason I’m sharing this is because what happened changed lots of medical theories and other things like her life. What happened changed everything from the slope that still has a shovel hanging from a tree where it had happened to the writing that got changed in a college medical journal.

The reason why I think this is so important is that one little slip could change someone’s entire life. That is why this is such a big deal is that a what happened on that day wasn’t just one single miracle what it means is that person would not be with us today if it wasn’t for that miracle then Bagenholm wouldn’t be with us today to share the story and ski the amazing slopes of Norway. The lesson that I learned is to never give up on someone.

Welcome

It’s here; Stanley BPS is now in the wonderful world of reporting, writing and the World Wide Web. Over the past few weeks students from our school have been working as hard as they can to include SBPS in the new age of technology and blogging. Kid’s opinions and opinionated stories will be posted on this new blog, as well as some fact based stories. Now we can read and listen to the generation of our times, the kids and the teenagers posting their opinion online is a great new way to get the word out. From the issues criss-crossing our nation to the latest on teen life, the blog will have it all. “While we try to teach our children all about life, children teach us what life is all about,” -Angela Schwindt. So, in conclusion, we welcome you to the new evolution in reporting, writing and a new look on what kids have to say.
